it takes a village, and we love our village!
The Wooden Nickel Public House proudly opened its doors in our original location at 105 N Churton on December 31st, 2003. We've considered ourselves to be incredibly fortunate over the years, blessed with amazing partners and relationships in the truly welcoming community that is Historic Hillsborough. The goal from day one was (and always will be) simple- to provide our town with a neighborhood pub. A communal gathering place for all walks of life to converge, to make memories, and to spark conversations that flow on into the night. It's also become a place to share our intense passion for food & drink, which you've allowed us to humbly serve year after year, encouraging us to work harder and improve our craft.
A bunch of years later we’re definitely older, and possibly (but probably not, who are we kidding?) wiser. Our pub is now located three doors up the road from the original at 113 N Churton St, in a space we designed ourselves so we could serve our town even better— better food, better drink programs, better communal gathering place. We now operate our own farm too, raising animals at Wooden Nickel Farms in nearby Cedar Grove in order to provide an even better, higher-quality and more honest dining experience. We’re ever more passionate about craft beer too, taking great care to serve it the right way and curating a unique program featuring the best beers from around the world while making them accessible to experts & novices alike. As for our famous jumbo chicken wings… well, we haven’t changed a thing about how we handle each and every dozen that leave our kitchen, and we probably never will.
Through it all, the support from our regulars, local community and extended WNP family has been phenomenal and means everything to us. After over 5,000 days of operating pretty much 20 hours a day, with nearly 1000 wing nights and countless pints of beer poured, our desire to open this place up for y’all rain or snow or shine has never waned. Nor has our quest to continue improving. And if you already know how stubborn we've always been about getting the little details right, then you know things ain’t changing anytime soon. This pub is your home as much as it is ours, and we own that responsibility every single day.
So if you’re coming by for beers, burgers or wings, or the staff of crusty barkeeps that remember your names and treat you like family— we thank you. We’re humbled that this little pub has provided so many memories for so many people over the years. We aim to continue to provide “Good Eats & Swill” for many more to come.
Cheers!
